Appreciate your journey
Appreciate your journey
Perfectionism creates more flaws. Holding yourself to an absolutely impeccable standard will only cause frustration rather than growth. Expecting to be further ahead than you currently is the root of self-loathing and disappointment. To fix this, we must remind ourselves to appreciate where we are, where we came from, and where we are heading.
Hiccups occur. You may run off course. Life will not always be sunshine and butterflies. But rather than admonishing yourself for losing your way, accept it and move on. Recognizing the struggle you encountered is the first step to getting through it. Letting small bumps in the road deviate you from your course will only cause more frustration in yourself. By letting small things affect you, you are showing how little resilience you have.
My lack of resilience is what held me back for years. I realized I was not living the way I wanted to and it frustrated me more than anything. I let little issues turn into big ones. I allowed my bad habits and downfalls to consume me. I had no self control, no strength to push through.
What I realized is that I had to completely accept where I was. If things were good, it was easy to accept. If things were bad, it was not easy to accept it, but I had to so that they could get better. Accepting the place where you are gives you a wake up call. I finally accepted that I was not where I wanted to be and sulking in the life I created would only let it continue. Instead, I started taking action.
I made a choice to begin my journey. I appreciated the fact that I had a starting point. Nearly one month later, I could look back and say I had made progress. I was not where I had dreamed of being at that point in time, but I was better than a month before. I fell in love with the feeling of progress. Being able to look back on what you have accomplished and feel proud is what motivates me to keep going.
Being disappointed in where you are gets you nowhere. Accept where you are, and do what you need to make things better. Appreciate every part of your journey and you will always be able to find motivation to keep going. Be proud of how far you have come.
~Thank you for reading. My goal is to help teach others ways to better themselves while doing the same for myself. This is The Exploration.~
