 Become an example


I used to think being introverted kept me from being a leader. The spotlight never appealed to me, I didn’t like being the center of attention. I wanted to live under the radar as much as I could and be unrecognized. Then I realized I had a gift that not everyone had. I have an ability to connect with people emotionally and motivate them. Being an emotional person, I thought that these emotions always held me back. I always asked myself why I cared so much about other people. I would see others in pain and I would cry because I felt like I needed to help them.

As I grew, I started taking full advantage of my ability. I realized that I can be the one to influence people, to grow people, to make people feel good about themselves. So I did just that, I began to live the same way I had been living, but being the hype man for the people closest to me. They acknowledged the fact that I helped them form a better version of themselves by believing in them. It made me feel great to know this, but I never thought anything of it. The problem: I believed in them, but not myself. 


The more I developed myself, I began to develop my scope. I took time to bring myself up to a level where I had the ability to be an example for people. I wanted to be the best version of myself to inspire others, but be a modest example. I wanted my success to be the reason that others took that first step. 


So here’s my goal for you: be the best version of yourself so you can be the best example for others. Your reach should not stop with those who are closest to you. It should span to every single person who encounters you throughout the day. Be a mentor. Be a teacher. Be a friend. Without the people who brought you to where you are, how would you be there? Realize that others need you to make them the best version of themself. Be the best version of you, so you can be the best to them. Become an example.

  “You coming or what!?” My sunburnt eyelids slowly opened to the same bright sun as always. Half my body hung over the side of the bus stop bench. I still felt hazy from last night’s fix. “Dude, I’m doing you a favor here!” I looked up to be blinded by a bright red car holding up traffic at the intersection. Horns were blaring behind him as he scolded me from the car.
