Eliminate energy vampires

 Eliminate energy vampires

We all have them in our lives. People who seem to suck the life out of every situation with their negativity. They are so consumed by the bad things going on around them that they bring everyone down with them. These people are energy vampires.

Now ask yourself this, are you the energy vampire? Do you change the mood of those around you for the worse? Are you the one highlighting the negative in every situation? I used to be the energy vampire. I was the one who worried, and focused all on the negative. I was the one who couldn’t have fun because I was too anxious about the what ifs. I was sucking the fun out of life and I knew I needed to change.

The first step to eliminating the energy vampire from yourself or others is to recognize when one is present. You need to locate who is the person preaching negativity rather than positivity. If it’s you, nice, easier to find.

Once you have located the energy vampire, you need to either cut them off, or be the absolute opposite. Cutting people off sucks, it’s not an easy thing to do at all. But some people never change. They cannot change their mindset and they are simply bringing you down. If you run into this, cut them off. You need people who are going to build you up, not bring you down.

If you don’t cut them off, try to influence their behavior. Force yourself to be the most positive person in their lives. Show them how much positivity has helped you grow. Rub off on them. Let them recognize how much of a lifesuck they are and perhaps they will change. Be the change in someone else’s life.

If you are the energy vampire you are trying to eliminate, you need to develop a plan. Develop a lineup of habits that will get you out of your old ways. One thing I saw when I was the energy vampire is that I let negativity and complaining be the focus of my conversations. You could easily say that I was not the one steering the conversation, but I participated. I have full control over everything in my life so if I am part of something, I can change it.

People love bad news. That is why bad news is part of most people’s day. We love to hear about drama, gossip, and catastrophe; it’s entertaining. But it also has a bigger impact on our lives than we think. Constant bad news leads to constant negative thinking. We don’t think we do it but we are products of what we consume.

When you get yourself in a detrimental conversation that is leading nowhere, either steer it, or end it. There is no use in continuing it. Recognize these things as they happen and you will get better at figuring out the events that lead to them happening.

Another thing that is extremely easy to do, is to write down what you are grateful for each day. Rather than thinking back on how bad the day is, this forces you to pick out things that were good. Making this a daily habit will force you to pick the good things out of even terrible days. Then the bad will no longer seem that bad.

Eliminating energy vampires is not easy to do. But it only requires several small changes to your habits and mindset to do so. Cut off lifesucks, avoid negativity tornadoes, and focus on the positive. Doing these 3 things will guarantee you a better, more positive life.
