Gaining respect

 Gaining respect

Who do you respect? Think of a couple people that you have an immense amount of respect for. Now ask yourself, why do you respect them? It might be what they have accomplished, what they have overcome, who they have become, or how they present themselves. There are a plethora of things that can gain respect from peers. If you are looking to gain respect, you have to first think of the things that you respect about a person. Once you have figured out what makes you respect someone, you can then begin doing these things and you will, in turn, respect both yourself and make yourself more respectable.

To earn respect from others, you must have already fully earned your own respect. Earning your own respect requires discipline. You must do things that make you proud of yourself. Build yourself into the person that you respect most. Do the things that others don’t do and you will be able to look up to yourself. For some, it is hard to truly become the person you look up to. It is hard to say that you are proud. Force yourself to respect yourself before anything. Once you have gained your own respect, gaining others’ respect will become that much easier.

Why does self respect gain the respect of others? Because it shows that you are proud of who you are. It shows others that you have put in work to become the best version of yourself and they will feel like they need to respect that. It is a psychological thing. A person with self-respect is confident and confidence demands respect. You will show that you have traveled roads that others have feared to travel because you did it for you. Others wanting to travel those roads will instantly seek your advice and approval. They will listen to words you say to try to imitate your path of progress.

Gaining respect is not a cocky thing. It is not a selfish thing. It is a healthy thing. Gaining respect is the best way to influence others. It is the best way to gain buy-in. It is the best way to create a change. Be the person that you respect, so you can be the role model for others.

~Thank you for reading. My goal is to help teach others ways to better themselves while doing the same for myself. This is The Exploration.~
