Getting back
Getting back
Breaks are necessary. To be able to work to our full capacity and ability we need breaks. After a long break from your habits, how do you get back on track? It is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but other times, it feels natural. Let’s talk about how to get back quickly and correctly.
Usually after a long refreshing break we want to stay comfortable. For some people it depends on the time period, but for others they could be on eternal vacation. Your body has been accustomed to being comfortable and doing things that you usually don’t do.
Most people will try to break out of their vacation immediately when they want to get back to reality. This works for some. If you have created a routine, simply continue the routine you have created. If you have good habits in place your subconscious should continue following them.
But for those who have not created a routine or habits it is hard to leave vacation. The solution for this case lies in slowly adding in new habits. Obviously you cannot live in vacation mode everyday because it will not be a break if it is reality. So you must slowly add in good habits and subtract bad habits. Doing one per day would be the best start. For example, if a vacation included drinking and eating a lot, focus on not drinking the day after the end of the break. The day after that, focus on eating healthy. Then add exercise back in the day after that. This is a slow, build-up way of getting back. Some might need to do it all at once.
Getting back to a stable, sustainable routine might require going cold turkey. In this strategy you would make a list of what you want to add back in and what you want to subtract. Making a list keeps you accountable for actually doing the things you said. Put the list in a spot where you will see it and mark the items off once they have been completed. If this strategy doesn’t work for you, attempt the first strategy.
There are many different ways to get back to reality but these are two I have tested personally. Find a strategy that works for you and find a way to get back faster and better. It doesn’t matter how hard you fall as long as you come back stronger.
