Renew

 Renew

Repetition creates perfection, but at the same time, it creates monotony. The repetition of habits will turn you into a master but to be a master you must be able to continue making progress. Habits are great, yes, but they do have their fallbacks. When you practice the same habits over time, there is no creativity, no reinvention. You are simply doing the same thing over and over again. Your imagination and creativity has been depleted and you start to get bored. The only thing keeping you going is the end goal. To combat this, we must make things new again. How can you renew old habits? Let’s find out.

Reviving the drive to accomplish is not an easy thing to do. It requires effort and when effort is required, things are less likely to get done. That is why it is so easy to continue doing a habit that you have been doing for a long time; there is no change in effort. Rather than changing the effort you are putting in by adding more to your current habits, it is much easier to change your environment or your process.

The easier change is the change of environment. Changing your environment simply means rearranging, adding to, or switching your current environment. By changing your domain you can refresh your mind. Simply daily changes will allow you to create a fresher workplace while continuing to practice the same habits and not get bored.

Changing your process means changing your routine. This means practicing the same habits but remodeling the way you do them. This could mean changing the order that you do things each day. Changing the routine every single day is not the best idea because your body is unable to really form a routine then, but changing your routine every couple weeks or months may help renew some energy.

A process can also be changed through addition. Pairing an activity while doing certain actions may help make them more entertaining. For example, listening to a new album while journaling may allow your brain to find more ideas (this is what I do daily). Incorporate new activities around your old activities to make them new.

Refreshing the way you do work and the place you do work will help renew your ambition to do work. Rediscover your drive to get things done by making simple changes to your daily patterns.
