Streaks
Streaks
Building habits takes work. Habits are a product of consistency over an extended period of time. Building habits requires streaks. After time, a streak will simply become second nature. Therefore, you have created a habit. But what happens when you miss? What happens when that streak is broken and you feel out of sorts? Never miss twice.
Days may come where you break a good streak. You are trying to practice a new habit and things don’t go as planned. You have a variety of possible responses that can arise. One may include giving up on the habit because the streak is over. A streak takes time and consistency to build and once it breaks it is painful. You might think that it will be impossible to build the streak again once it has been broken. That is called giving in. Rather than giving in, exercise the opposite option: start a new streak.
Starting a new streak should be easier than the first time because you have already proved to yourself that you can be consistent. Also, why not exceed your already impressive first streak. Get started on a new streak and feel the success of being on a streak.
When we lose a streak it hurts, it is super easy to fall back into old ways. Be resilient and learn to bounce back. Remind yourself of what you already have accomplished and build on it. Just because you miss a day it doesn’t mean you haven’t made any progress. You have reached the top of the stairs and are at a new level. To climb to the next level, you start at the floor you have already climbed to.
Streaks get broken. If you miss one day, don’t miss the next. Never miss twice in a row. Start a new streak right away.
