Zoned

 Zoned

Disappear into a state of complete, laser focus. Once you have achieved this state, nothing can distract you from your goals. Now the question is, how can we achieve this state? Let’s dig in.

Focusing is difficult now. Constant notifications and distractions have made it nearly impossible to maintain any state of stillness. In order to avoid this, you must escape. But where do you escape to? Not everybody has the ability to travel somewhere sublime where they can find peace. The answer: you must escape into your own mind.

This is an art that I have practiced for quite some time. I discovered ways to make myself fall into an absolute daze with no substance to augment it. This daze would create a laser focus that would make me completely in tune with my own mind.

The first step is realizing you can just let the world live around you. You do not need to know who’s doing what at every second of every day. This applies to public places too. I used to get so caught up in how I appeared in public and how people looked at me that I could never truly focus on what I wanted to do. Sometimes you need to just tune out the world around you and tune in to your own mind. One thing I’ve used to do this: music.

Music has always been my escape. But not just any type of music. I don’t simply throw on the radio and hope to arrive in a new state. Rather, I tune into either music that helps me travel to a new state or music that helps me travel deeper into my current state. It all sounds unconventional, but I truly believe that music is the best way to change your state.

It can bring you back to a memory from when you were young. It can recreate the exact scene in your mind all the way from the smells to the exact feeling running through your body. When I try to relive a memory, I make sure that the music is on as almost a background, then I try to do something continuous and requiring some but not all my focus. For example, throw on some music and go for a walk or a run. Let the music guide your route, don’t pay attention to pace, time or anything else.

I have also used music to create a static when I am trying to focus. Stable, low music with little variation in sound can help create a feeling of white noise that helps you live in the current. During these times, I attempt to listen to music that I have not heard, or music that my mind does not recognize. Allowing your mind to experience something new, typically brings about new thoughts and feelings.

Once you have mastered the art of creating a static in what you hear, and do an activity that requires little focus, you can begin to tune into the world you are living inside and quit worrying about the world going on around you. I have been able to completely forget where I am at times because of this state of meditation I can create. Practicing this form of meditation allows you to escape from the current situation no matter where you are. Constantly living your life without distractions allows you to truly experience it as it happens.

Turn off your notifications. Ignore the world around you. Tune into your mind and become completely zoned in. Focusing on the inside allows you to escape from the outside.

~Thank you for reading. My goal is to help teach others ways to better themselves while doing the same for myself. This is The Exploration.~
