Balance

“Balance is not something you find, it is something you create.”

Life is meant to be lived. To live it, we must find the balance between: work and play, joy and pain, love and sorrow.

Without the bad, there is no good. We live through the bad and that is what makes the good, good. Life is a long road of chasing the highs and feeling the lows. The lows hurt, and the highs restore.

What happens if we don’t recognize that the lows create the highs? When we don’t recognize the purpose of the lows, we are stuck in a constant low.

I have met people who live their life chasing the highs because they fear the lows and guess what? They aren’t happy. In fact, they are the saddest people we know. These people do not recognize the effect of balance. When the pain is bad, they decide to avoid it rather than dealing with it.

We have all been in a place where running from fear or pain seems like the best idea. We look for any way out of the current state we are in to make things feel better. But what we don’t realize is that we need the pain. The pain creates the joy. Without the pain, joy would not exist. Our entire existence would be lived apathetically. No emotions would be felt. No happiness. No love. No adrenaline. Nothing.

The other end of the spectrum is just as bad. When we are constantly in work mode, we miss the life in front of us. We chase work because we think the end result will be better but in the end, the result is death. If you don’t slow down and take time to live the life around you, you are simply hiking up a mountain with your head down only to find you have missed the real reason for hiking in the first place: the progress.

We crave progress. We crave ups and downs. We crave change.

Recognize that balance is the only way to feel anything. Find a way to appreciate the present while working toward the future, but look around on your way. When you feel low, realize that it is for a reason. Life sucks so it can get better later. You won’t always feel low unless you are constantly chasing the high. Embrace your pain. Live your own journey. Explore yourself. This is the way to pure happiness.
