Perception
Perception
The way your mind perceives life controls what you feel. Feelings are created in the mind, and the mind has complete control over feeling. Everything in your external environment is interpreted by your mind. The feelings associated with the environment are completely based on past experience. If something arises that made you feel a certain way in the past, when it arises again you will most likely feel similar. Now, what happens when you don’t? What happens when a memory from the past is triggered and the feeling no longer is the same? Perception has changed.
Each and everything we have gone through experiences our perception. The reason that feeling can never be as euphoric as it once was is because your perception has changed. Innocence and lack of understanding is part of the reason why childhood memories are so happy. You had less to worry about, your perception of the world was far simpler than it is now.
Is it possible to change perception? Most definitely. Although every experience has led to the way you perceive life, perception can be altered within the mind. Be strong with what you tell yourself you are experiencing. By constantly interpreting life through a positive lens, your mind will start associating positivity with each event. It is as simple as the glass half full, glass half empty concept. Both are true, but the way your mind receives it comes down to perception. By focusing on the positive always, your brain will perceive things positively.
Even past events can be perceived in a new lens. The way you felt about an event as a kid may have been negative, but by reexamining and looking at it through a more positive lens, the memory can be reconciled. If you were mad about how your parents treated you as a kid you can hold a grudge through the rest of your life. Your perception will always be negative. But by reexamining and looking at how you grew from the experience, you can completely rectify the event in your mind.
Life doesn’t just have to be seen through one lens. Once you open your eyes and see things for more than your brain naturally lets you, you will begin to live more fully. Allow yourself to be open to life. Consider all things in a positive light and your brain will make life more pleasant. Remind yourself that the way you feel is completely up to your mind and who controls the mind? You.
