the map

“Life is a journey where you choose the direction.”

The way we go in life is determined by how much we control it. Some love control, others go with the flow.

The question to ask is what do you want?

What kind of life do you wish to create?

In my opinion, a life can be lived in 3 ways:

-With a map

-Without a map

-Blindfolded

When you travel with a map, you have a purpose. You wake up every single day with a goal in mind. You are driven by this goal, every single action you take is in effort to achieve this goal. This life is predictable. This life is secure. This life is mostly comfortable. You know what you are going to do because you have a plan. There are little surprises.

Traveling without a map is somewhat risky. You don’t know where you are going, but you can see what is ahead of you. You recognize some places you go, but others you are completely lost. You are in control, but not in control completely. You control which way you go, but you don’t control the outcome because you don’t have a destination. This life is stimulating. It is full of surprises. It is entertaining. But it is not secure, nor completely comfortable. Your limits are being pushed and you never quite feel stable. But you are free.

Blindfolded travel is the most audacious. You have lost control of where you are going. You are letting your decisions be made by someone other than yourself. You are letting life take you where it wants to. This life is completely unpredictable. It is almost reckless. There is no comfort. No security. No stability. But are you free in this life? No, because there is no control.

Key: The amount of variables you are in control of determines where you will go.

When asked the question “what do you want” most of us are stumped. We can't quite put it into words. There is a feeling we long for but can’t simply sum it up. The way to answer the question is by choosing which way you live your life.

A planned life is usually successful, but monotonous and unchanging.

An unplanned life is variable and spontaneous.

An uncontrolled life is reckless and unpredictable.

How much will you follow your map? Is it your map or did somebody else create it? Who is really in control?

Life is full of questions that have no answer.

But after all, that’s life.
