Create your own luck

“Luck is when an opportunity comes around and you’re prepared for it.”

Want to have good luck? Then you need to prepare yourself for when it comes. The reason you are “unlucky” is because you have not prepared yourself. 

Luck is a simple formula of 4 variables, 3 of which are in your control.

Luck = Preparation + Attitude + Action + Opportunity

The only aspect of this formula that you don’t control is the opportunity. 

You may say “well, I never GET the opportunity.” 

No, the truth is, you never RECOGNIZE the opportunity because you haven’t taken control of the other 3 pieces of the formula.

Opportunities come by every single day. Lucky people recognize them, unlucky people don’t. Be lucky and take the opportunity.

Let’s break down each part step by step.

PREPARATION

How do you know if you’re prepared? You don’t.

Everybody wants a step-by-step guide of how they can prepare themselves for any opportunity that comes by. Sorry, but I can’t prepare you for life. Life just happens and you have to be ready for as many situations as possible.

To prepare yourself effectively, you must figure out what you want luck to create for you. 

Do you want luck to…

Make you rich? Put you in a different part of the world? Help you meet your spouse? Land you a new job?

Then put yourself in a position where you will succeed in doing that. Get ready for what you want to happen and it will happen.

Figure out what it is that you want, and prepare for that.

By preparing yourself for what you want, you will recognize the opportunity to get what you want as soon as it arises.

ATTITUDE

Your attitude will control how you perceive any situation.

You could be prepared as ever and take actions toward achieving your dream but if you have a pessimistic attitude, the opportunity will never come.

A positive attitude comes with an open mind.

Having an open mind allows you to see things for how they really are rather than seeing things superficially or how you want to see them.

Opportunities won’t always come the way you expect them to.

One of my best friends came to me as a person I never once thought I would associate with. I had preconceived ideas of who they were and I would have never thought to make an acquaintance. Luckily work brought us together and I kept an open mind when conversing with them. Months have passed and I have someone who I consider to be my best friend. All of that would have never happened had I not given them the chance.

A closed mind will keep you from discovering some of the best things in life.

Keep an open mind and a positive attitude and opportunities will find you.

ACTION

“WHAT IS EASY TO DO, IS JUST AS EASY NOT TO DO.”

This quote from Jim Rohn has changed my life.

The reason not everyone is successful is because they choose to not take action on what they want. Why? Because it’s easy to not do.

But, it’s also easy to do, so do it.

If you want to get better at something, just start doing it. Any sort of progress is better than no progress at all. 

I have been working for months to try to achieve this dream that I have had since I was a child. Some days I feel like I am nowhere close to it. But other days, I see that I have gone so far.

I CHOSE to take action one day, and since then, I will never go back. Because I took action, doors have opened for me. I have ended up talking to people that I didn’t think I would. I have gone to places I didn’t think I would. I have worked jobs I never thought I could. 

All of this because I simply started taking action.

No matter what it is, if you want it, go get it.

Taking action will bring up opportunities you could never imagine.

OPPORTUNITY 

The last piece. The piece that has been the output of every input so far. The opportunity.

What constitutes an opportunity?

Great question.

My answer: an opportunity is whatever you want it to be, that’s why it’s called an opportunity.

Anything is an opportunity. It simply comes down to what you do with it. Some people may see a great opportunity in the thing that others see nothing. That’s why some are successful and others are not.

If you follow the first three pieces of the formula, more opportunities come.

WHY? 

Being prepared sets you up for success in more situations.

A good attitude keeps you open to seeing opportunities.

Taking action puts you in a position to find opportunities.

They all play off each other.

So now answer this for me:

DO OPPORTUNITIES COME NATURALLY, OR DO YOU CREATE THEM?
