Make time
“Time isn’t found, it’s created.”
What creates time?
The only thing that truly creates time is time itself.
Let me explain.
Everybody wants to make a lot of money. Why? What is the reasoning? Because money cuts down on the amount of time it takes to get what they desire. If you want a new car, more money would make getting that car closer on the timeline. If you wanted to go on a big vacation, making more money would allow you to justify spending the time away from work to take a vacation and not feel like you can’t afford anything. If you want to retire early, money allows you to quit working and still be able to afford to live. Money does not buy things, it buys time.
So if money buys time, what gets money? The answer: time.
The time you spend at work is worth money, therefore your time simply buys time. But what if you don’t want to spend all your time at work. You value your time too much to spend it to buy more time. You would rather relax during your time. Then you are wasting time. The more time you spend doing things that don’t produce more time, the more you are wasting your greatest resource. Take advantage of your time by using it to develop skills to give you free time. If you spend all of your down time bettering yourself, then you are investing time to get time.
It is a complex idea, so let’s look at a simpler example:
You have been putting off an oil change in your car for a great deal of time. You know that this oil change needs to happen but you don’t ever make time to do it. Instead you procrastinate and always intend to do it later. One day, the engine in your car overheats and no longer works. This fix will not only cost you money, but it will also cost you much more time than getting the oil change would have. As a result of your procrastination, you lose all of the time that it took to make the money for the new engine, and the time it took to find a tow truck, get the car fixed, and find a way of transportation. It all could’ve been avoided if you had created time.
This metaphor can be applied to your own life. If you keep putting off making time for what is important now, it will eventually catch up to you later and cost even more time.
Life is all about balancing work and relaxation. Everything has a tradeoff. When it comes to time, once it is spent it can not be regained. If you want to be able to be free with your time when it matters most, make the most out of the time you have.
Make every action an investment in your future.
Invest the time you have to create more time you can use.
