Set an example

“A good example has twice the value of good advice.”

As a kid, you are constantly being told what to do. You have parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, siblings, pastors, friends all giving you advice on how to behave. This is confusing. You don’t know what is right and what is wrong. You can only rely on what people tell you.

Growing older allows you to gain more experience. You see how certain actions make people feel. You start to associate certain actions with certain responses. This gives you a better idea of how to act.

You are able to form your behaviors based on what you see, not what you are told. If people tell you to do something but don’t do that thing themselves, you will not do it. It’s simple human nature.

I have seen the importance of good examples in my life. When I was a kid, there were many things my parents told me to do that I didn’t understand. I always questioned what they said in my head because I’m a deep thinker. But as I grew, I replicated exactly what my parents told me to do.

WHY?

Because they were great examples.

My parents lived the life they wanted me to live. They didn’t only set an example with their words, but also with their actions.

I saw many different viewpoints as a kid. Many different lifestyles. I actually enjoyed getting to see things done differently than what I knew because it was entertaining. Because of this, I questioned everything. I questioned what was right and what was wrong everyday.

Childhood is a crucial time in everyone’s life. It has an immense impact on how a person turns out. Constantly having a good role model in front of you will make you follow suit. On the contrary, a bad role model will have an extremely detrimental impact on your life.

All I can do now is take the great habits and morals my parents ingrained in me and continue to grow others.

My parents both insisted I read as a kid and I never recognized the importance. They also practiced what they preached. I always saw my parents reading and growing themselves, and now, years later I find myself reading constantly to grow myself. My parents lived healthy lifestyles, so do I. My parents made time for family, so do I.

Parents are teachers. They are counselors. They are influencers.

If you want to have an impact on people’s lives, you have to live as an example.

Your words have no gravity unless you have the evidence to back them up.

If you want to leave a legacy, you have to set an example.

Thank you for reading.

I appreciate every single person who happens to stumble across these deep sentiments buried in my subconscious.

I hope if you’re here you can relate.

My goal is to help others better themselves while doing the same.

This is The Exploration.
