Society's slave
“The worst thing about slavery is that the slaves eventually get to like it.”
Definition:
Slavery: excessive dependence on or devotion to something.
Knowing this, ask yourself…
WHAT ENSLAVES ME?
…
Who is choosing to do the things you do everyday? Is it actually you? Or do you do those things because you are DEPENDENT on them?
The more I reflect on my own life, the more I try to cut out my dependencies. Freedom is discovered when you realize that you are the one in control of your decisions, not your dependencies. Our needs are what make us dependent. We do not have control of our needs, they are in our biology, but we can control how we fulfill them.
Each person has 5 simple groups of needs:
Physiological
Safety
Belonging
Esteem
Self-actualization
The key word here: NEEDS. These things are necessary.
So why is it so easy to give up on the last three once the first two are met?
Because we are enslaved by the things that provide the means of achieving the first two so much that we don’t have the ability to achieve belonging, esteem, and self-actualization needs.
Physiological and safety needs are at the base of the pyramid because without them you would die. Things that can fulfill these two basic survival needs hold a high power in your life. The main thing that controls these needs: MONEY. Without money, you can’t buy food, you can’t pay for water, you can’t buy a shelter, and you can’t afford insurance. Money is needed to fulfill basic needs.
The people with money are the people in control.
The boss, the big man (or woman), the head honcho, They control you. They have money to provide you safety, food, water, and shelter so they have you doing whatever they need from you so you can simply fulfill those needs.
What you don’t realize is that you are fulfilling two needs so they can fulfill all five. (if you’re lucky, you feel like you belong at work so you can argue three rather than two.)
They have made you DEPENDENT on them so you can simply survive. You are enslaved.
This is a lie that society has told you since day one. They have told you this is normal. It is completely normal to ignore your personal self-fulfillment needs so somebody else can fulfill theirs. It is sick.
The people who are able to complete their own pyramid are the ones who realize this. They realize that is not how life should be lived. A change needs to be made to break out of this rat race called life.
That change: find a way to cut dependencies.
Once you can finally depend on yourself, you have found freedom.
If you can find fulfillment working for somebody else, props to you. But if you can’t, you have to come to terms with how you feel. If you feel like you are wasting away being a slave to your dependencies, follow me as I break away from mine.
Don’t be part of the 99%, be a part of the 1%.
That is where happiness is found.
