Look up

“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.”

Everybody wants to hide their scars.

But if you didn’t have scars, what would make you any different?

I have tried to hide my scars for years. The image of myself that has roamed through my mind my entire life has caused me to look down rather than looking up. It’s hard to look in a mirror when you don’t see the person you want to see.

For so long I walked with my head down. My eyes glued to the floor in front of me hoping nobody would pay attention to me. But they still saw me. And they recognized that I didn’t want to be seen. People are able to see when your image of yourself is not the one you want. People with a negative self-image hold themselves much differently than those who believe they are worth something.

Now, when I see someone with their head down, I see myself.

I want to help them because I was them.

People will convince you to look up but you never will unless you want to. I had friends and family try to make me recognize my value for years. It helped slightly, but things never actually changed until I believed it for myself. It is easy for someone to compliment you when they don’t actually live in your skin. For them, it is satisfying to think that you made somebody else feel good but they don’t actually want to be you. And the truth is they can’t be you.

The only person you can be is you, so why wouldn’t you embrace you?

I lived life for so long wishing I was somebody else. What I didn’t realize is that I could become somebody else. I simply just needed to recognize the person I was. The person I wanted to be was always inside of me. I just never let him come out because I was too busy looking down, trying to be unseen. As a result, I became invisible to myself too.

The people I love and admire are the people who have fully accepted who they are and embraced it. Jonah Hill is a great example of somebody who has been in the spotlight through many phases of his life. He was loved by the people who saw his art even when he didn’t love himself. And even he, an extremely prolific actor, lost sight of how valuable he is.

The human side of us makes us more aware of our own faults than others’.

You are your own biggest critic.

You have to let others’ see you even when you don’t want to see you because they see something different.

Vulnerability is one of the most attractive traits a person can possess. Radically accept who you are and embrace it. Others’ will see this and flock to it. By being yourself, you inspire others to be themselves.

I must applaud my brother for being one of the most vulnerable people I know. He is different from others, but he knows it and embraces it. By doing this, he has been able to create the exact group of people he wants around him. He is a leader. People admire him because of his strength of character. Nobody can bring him down because he only believes what he knows about himself. He has created his own reality.

I strive to become like him.

To find happiness in life, you must find happiness in yourself.

Look up and be seen.

Let the world see you.

Love the person you are.

Thank you for reading.

I appreciate every single person who happens to stumble across these deep sentiments buried in my subconscious.

I hope if you’re here you can relate.

My goal is to help others better themselves while doing the same.
