Start
“You don’t have to be good to start, but you do have to start to be good.”
Sometimes the most intimidating thing is simply starting.
It is natural to think that you have to be good at something when you start. But if you think about any skill you have now, were you good when you first started? Most likely not. It took years to become good at the skill.
When you are a kid, you don’t compare yourself to the bests, you compare yourself to the others who are starting. Once you grow up, this changes. Your idea of what you should be able to do is based on the people who do it the best. You are no longer comparing yourself to people who have only done it as long as you, but people who have been doing it forever.
It’s really not a fair comparison.
Some can be better than you at something when they have been doing it just as long. This is either due to them putting in more work, or having a better natural ability.
But that should just give you motivation to work as hard as them.
Everyone acquires skills at a different rate. That is why you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone but yourself. But if comparison is your form of motivation, compare yourself to those who have been doing it as long as you. Study what they have done differently. Study their process, their systems, their routine.
Secrets of success can usually be uncovered when you dive into the process of creating the success.
So many people are demotivated because they see the success of others and say “I will never be as good as them.” You’re right. You won’t. Unless you start. The people who have adopted this mindset just accept the idea that they can’t be any better so they don’t get any better.
By simply starting to work on something you have already passed everyone who never did.
You’re not going to be good at the start, nobody ever is. But you have to realize that every single person that you look up to was in the exact same spot as you at one point in time. The biggest difference between them and others is that they had a goal, they started to work toward it and they never stopped.
It’s a real simple equation.
If you do something consistently for long enough you will be better than someone who hasn’t done it as consistently or as long.
Level of skill is determined by during time, consistency of work, and level of effort.
Skill level = time + consistency + effort.
Now that you have the formula, you just have to start.

Thank you for reading.
I appreciate every single person who happens to stumble across these deep sentiments buried in my subconscious.
I hope if you’re here you can relate.
My goal is to help others better themselves while doing the same.
