“With every sunset comes a sunrise.”
Here’s the honest truth: I lost control.
I started letting a lot of important pieces of my life slip. I slowly allowed myself to become more and more laxed in what I do.
IT’S TIME TO TAKE BACK CONTROL.
I started letting myself believe that I was stagnant. By telling myself this, I made it a reality.
I used the infamous phrase:
“I will ____ when _____ happens.”
Pushing action off until circumstances change is one of the worst things you can do to yourself.
IF YOU CAN’T DO IT NOW, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU COULD DO IT LATER?
Instead of taking action,
I looked for excuses.
I looked for distractions.
I looked for anything to take my mind off doing what I should.
Now it’s time to revamp.
Some of the best words of wisdom I have learned are
“If it isn’t working, make a change.”
To determine if something isn’t working, ask yourself:
What is my goal?
What am I trying to achieve?
Where do I want to be in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?
Do I feel like I am making progress toward that goal?
Are my daily actions feeding that goal?
Am I on pace to achieve my goal?
Am I working hard enough?
If the answer to any of these is NO, it’s time to change.
The biggest place I have been lacking in my road to success lately has to do with this little word I call CLARITY.
When I first started, my goal was clear. I wanted to start a daily blog, along with a Twitter profile so I could inspire people to better themselves as I did the same for myself.
It was clear enough, but
What is the next step?
How many people do I want to inspire?
How soon do I want to develop a newsletter? Or a website? Or write a book?
These goals were never set in stone.
THAT’S WHERE I FAILED.
There was no next goal.
I continue accomplishing the goals I wanted to start by doing, but have no clarity as to which way I want to continue.
I often talk about the importance of PURPOSE.
I believe having a clear purpose is crucial. I have a clear purpose for doing what I do, that purpose is to inspire. But achieving that purpose is impossible without developing stepping stones to get there.
A purpose doesn’t have a quantitative value, it is just a general idea.
To determine how far you want that purpose to stretch, you must set goals that have a monetary value.
THAT IS HOW YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE MOTIVATED.
Honestly, by not having these goals, I lost all motivation.
I developed the good habits I wanted to, yes, but I have not continued getting better, I have just slowly remained at the same level for quite some time.
It is a level I was not at a year ago, or even a month ago, but it is not a level I am content with.
It’s time for me to get serious.
Today I will sit down and create a strong list of goals I wish to achieve, and list how I will achieve them.
I will be better.
To be continued…
