day 5

You’ll miss a every sunrise

Not waking up

You’ll miss a every sunset

Not looking up

Days get long

So I’ll play a song

Younger Days

To remind me of the place

When Chase had a baby face

And we’d go outside to play

Now hair grows

In places I don’t even know

And my eyes

Are much droopier than before

Friends no longer knock

Before they come in

And when they do

They bring a bottle or two

Nights no longer end at nine

When the sight of the sun setting

Means it’s bedtime

We play football

But not on mowed grass

With a nerf ball

That has been torn

From hours of use

No, this time it’s in a pool

And it doesn’t feel as cool

Cuz I’m no longer on the Bears

Catching touchdowns in front of all the fans

It’s smokey here

But not from the logs

Of a tree that used to be

Something I’d see when I’d be

Sitting in a treehouse made for me

All thoughts from my blogs

Have become a phase

Honestly, a craze

As I craved

To be in a place

That would once again amaze

Now I just write

When it feels right

Releasing this nostalgia

I feel each night
