undone/run
Undone/run
Line one
Slowly sets the sun
What’s lacking, really isn’t
What’s missing, is just unfinished
This slacking, an action of reaction,
Has turned from simple satisfaction
To an attraction to inaction
A state you can’t locate on a map
Its origin isn’t physical
Rather chemical, like the peel
That extracts the fragments
Of leftover stress that has fled
From the inside, to the depths of the pores
And the craters from the sores
That had formed on your face
During times you were faced
With fear that can’t simply be erased
But must be faced, head on
Like running a race
Because what you run for
Is nothing, but what you run from
Is something you must overcome
But it will catch you if you stop
And it will be there til you drop
So you’re scared to even pause
And that fear always causes
You to run
Even though that’s the last thing
That should be done.
***
Undone
Like laces of shoes
Always when you run
Makes you stop
And fix the mistake
Of not double knot
No, just one
No time to stop
To make a double knot
Before you start to trot
What lies ahead
Is more important
Than the spot
In which you’re caught
So run
As hard as you’ve got
So you don’t get caught
Because you’re always being chased
By problems you create
By not taking a break
To grab ahold of each lace
And make a double knot
What a stressful life we face
Undone.
***
3 parts
Like a triathlon
Or a margarita
Extra strong
Starts internal
Like a monologue
Maybe a soliloquy
Increasingly, hard
To dissect, like a frog
Almost like an excerpt
From some random dude’s blog
Then it’s commercial
Good parts got circled
And sorted through
Like panning for gold
But the rocks are recycled
And the thoughts are old
So the punchline is dicey
And maybe a little too bold
Third part is this
Little blip of literary shit
Where words that like to sit
On the edge of the brain
And put their toes in for a dip
Finally jump
To feel the blood pump
Fierce through the veins
Adrenaline kills the pain
And creativity reigns
And the brain finally shuts
Off/up on the mountaintops
It’s 9:09 local time
So finish the rhyme
And wrap up this line
Because at this point in time
It’s a run on sentence
Add a period for crying
Out loud it never really
Sounds the same
Just kind of a lame
Conglomeration of characters
A bunch of random phrases
Filling up a document
Not even real pages
Just like every good thought
Meant to transcend the ages.
This thought is undone
It really isn’t finished
Unless you go back to…
