An indescribable feeling

 An indescribable feeling

Raindrops fall on to my windshield and stream to the side as the wind blows. Not a single ray of sun is shown on this autumn morning. The sky is a dark hue of blue-gray, a color so familiar for this time of year. As I perceive this moment, I am transported back to years ago.

Now, I no longer drive the streets of the upper midwest, but rather the northeast. The buildings have become early 1800s colonial-style pieces of art. The prairies have converted into miles of open ocean. The atmosphere has remained the same, but the landscape has changed. All of the sudden, I feel free. I have escaped from my daily routine and traveled back in time to a place where my skin is bright and my mind is pure.

I snap back into consciousness as I drive. This moment felt all too real. For a second, I was not here. I was not present at all, and I felt free. I escaped.

Unknowingly, I have discovered a place to go whenever I want: my mind. Because of the similarities in environment, I was able to travel back to a time where work and life didn’t exist. It was pure euphoria.

The phenomenon of time travel is real. I have discovered multiple ways of bringing myself to a memory. Music is a way of rediscovering a moment of the past. Your mind recollects deep, hidden memories upon a single strike of a familiar piano chord. It is truly unbelievable what your brain can do.

This feeling is indescribable. It is something that only you can feel, a memory unique to you. I challenge you to transport yourself to the past. Find a way to relive those memories and find yourself again. The euphoric feeling created when reliving a memory is unmatched.
