Tree of life

 Tree of life

Every life has a purpose. Therefore, every action should have a purpose. Are we truly alive if we live without purpose? I believe the answer is no.

We are creatures motivated by needs and wants. There are deep, physiological needs that live within us that influence us to do what we do each day. One of those physiological needs is purpose. If possible, put your overall purpose into one sentence, essentially your mission statement. The mission statement or purpose are the roots that keep you upright.

Your mission statement should not be something that you can do overnight, it should not be something that can be accomplished in your lifetime either. A mission statement should be the legacy you leave. In your last moments, you should look back and say that you have accomplished what you wanted to accomplish in life. This overall purpose lives with you through your entire life and you know when you are close to it and when you stray from it.

Once you have established your mission statement, write down goals that coincide. These goals should be benchmarks for you to recognize your progress. They should help you create daily habits that will get you to the goals. Your goals are the trunk that extend from your roots. It is the first thing that grows from the purpose you have created. Nothing can happen if your purpose hasn’t been established though. Everything starts with your purpose and every action is a result of it.

The next step down are the daily habits. These habits are what help you achieve your goals. The habits should be consistent actions that align with your goals. You should do them unconsciously because they are so programmed into you. These habits are the branches that extend from your trunk. They appear because of the presence of your goals. These habits are what helps the trunk thrive as well. They hold the tools to protect the tree. Your habits are the systems that you have put in place to keep you safe from everyday temptations.

Daily decisions are the last appendage on our tree. These are the leaves. Some of them flourish and help make the tree what it is, but others fall and make the tree look barren and dead. Make decisions that will help your tree flourish and be plentiful. Bear the fruit so you can plant other trees when the time comes. Don’t create weak leaves. The weak leaves are the bad decisions you make. The decisions that weaken you as a person and harm others. Think of the impact you are making on the overall forest.

Review. In comparing your life to a tree, your purpose is the roots, your goals are the trunk, your habits are the branches, and your daily decisions are the leaves. Each thing needs each other to make it the tree that it is, but it all comes back to the base of the tree, the roots. Without a purpose, your tree will not stand. Create a solid “why” and you will thrive.

~Thank you for reading. My goal is to help teach others ways to better themselves while doing the same for myself. This is The Exploration.~
