Surrounded

 Surrounded

Growing myself has been my choice, but it has not completely been my doing. I realized early on in my exploration that if I wanted to be successful, I needed to surround myself with successful people. Not everyone is supplemental to your success. Some of your best friends may be hindering your progress. Figuring out who to surround yourself with is hard to do. I have established a few things I look for when I decide who to spend time with.

  1. Goals

The people you surround yourself with should have the same goals as you or different goals of the same magnitude. One of my goals is to write a book. Not many of my closest friends plan on writing a book anytime soon, but they have goals that match the magnitude of my goals. Having your goals be similar in theme or in magnitude allows you to follow a similar process. If my goal is to write a book and my friend’s goal is to start an online business, we have very different goals, but both have a goal that requires a well-thought-out, strategic process to complete.

Not everyone will buy-in to your goals either. If a friend doesn’t buy-in, so be it. Just don’t surround yourself with people who tell you your goals are not worth it. A good friend will support you and what you do. Surround yourself with people who are supportive and challenge you to complete your goals.

  1. Lifestyle

Goals typically determine lifestyle, but what if somebody’s goal is further out than yours? They typically live a different lifestyle. If a friend has a goal to do something within the next thirty years and you have a similar goal you wish to complete within the next ten years, your lifestyles may be completely different now. People can have the same goals as you, but the way they live every day to complete them can be completely different.

Surround yourself with people who live the lifestyle you wish to live. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the lifestyle you currently live because that might not be the lifestyle you want. It should instead be the lifestyle that will help you get to where you want. If that lifestyle requires deep, hard work for eight hours a day followed by partying all night, find a friend who can match it. If it fulfills your goals, go for it. If your goal is to spend as much time as you possibly can with family and friends, then find people who value the same things and find a way to capitalize on the time you are working so you can make this happen.

The people who live the lifestyle you want are the best people to spend your time around because most likely they are doing something differently than you that is replicable.

  1. Passion

People can share the same goals and lifestyle, but if their passion is not equal, you will lose yours. Some people know their goals so they live the lifestyle to achieve them, but their method is lackluster. They are simply going through the motions because they are driven by their goal. It is hard to be around someone who doesn’t show the same passion because it is demotivating.

Someone who can match your passion is someone who can drive you while driving themselves. Two passionate people will build off each other and double their growth. This is by far the most important thing to lock onto when deciding who to surround yourself with. It is easy to read when someone shares the same passion and when they do, it’s contagious.

~Thank you for reading. My goal is to help teach others ways to better themselves while doing the same for myself. This is The Exploration.~
