Command less so eventually you can command more
“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.”
What is your biggest goal in life?
…
You may have much more than one goal, I for sure do, but I want you to establish one goal so you can focus. Having one, singular goal that you are working toward allows you to work on the little things.
Start small first, master it, then move on. This is the key to achieving bigger goals.
You must learn to control the small actions before you can control the big actions. This relates a lot to your daily habits and disciplines:
Say your goal is to inspire and teach a huge following of people. This is an extremely large goal. You must first control yourself and what you do. This includes working on each one of your disciplines and habits individually. You must master yourself before you can inspire anyone else.
Once you have mastered yourself, then you can move on to others. But wait, you can’t inspire a large following yet, you must master a small following. You must start with a few followers and learn to give them all your time and your value. If you are ever going to have a large following, you must take care of your small following.
Once you have given all of your effort and care to your small following, then and only then can you expand your influence.
You create large goals for yourself and you want to accomplish them as fast as possible. What you don’t realize is that large goals are only completed by achieving all the small steps on the way. Without taking complete control over all the little pieces that make up the big picture, you will never complete it.
I often develop huge dreams then figure out what I need to do to achieve them. At first, it is extremely easy to work. I am completely motivated because I think about the feeling I will get when I fulfill the dream. But then, I slowly become less and less motivated. Why? Because the dream seems so far away. I feel like I will never get there.
The truth is, I will get there. If you forget to master the daily actions, the distant dream will never be fulfilled. But if you make each day your small goal and take command of the small, daily disciplines, that dream will come in time.
Every single time you achieve one small goal, it becomes easier to achieve the next.
Use your momentum.
Command less so someday you can command more.
