Crabs in a bucket
“When you say ‘yes’ to others, make sure you aren’t saying ‘no’ to yourself.”
The crab analogy:
When placing crabs in a bucket, a fisherman doesn’t need to worry about the crabs escaping, even though they can. Why? Because when one crab tries escaping, the other crabs make sure to pull it back. Most crabs accept being stuck in the bucket once they are put in there. But some realize that escape is possible. Other crabs pull the visionary crabs back because if they can’t escape, nobody else can either.
WHO IN YOUR LIFE DOESN’T WANT YOU TO SUCCEED?
Everyone has friends that will want you to stay right where you are. They know you are capable of doing big things but they don’t think that of themself. So they hold you back. They see you trying to escape from the mold and they hold on for dear life.
Humans want everything to be fair. They want equality. But some humans don’t ever adopt the mindset that they can do more in life than what was given to them. They see people like them trying to succeed and hold them back.
You see this analogy in action in places of poverty. When people grow up in poverty, most of them accept that their life is going to be that way. Others feel like they can change their life. But the people around them make them feel that they will never escape. They pull them back and bring them down to their level because they don’t want you to achieve what they can’t. That is why it is so hard for people to break the cycle.
BE THE VISIONARY CRAB.
It is not easy to be different. When you are trying to make life better for yourself, people get this idea in their heads that you think you’re better than them. They are afraid to change for themselves so they make you the bad guy. You must not be afraid to change. You have to break out of the box you’ve been placed in. When you break the mold people will either:
Hate you for it, or follow your steps.
Hope for the second route. Hope that your personal success is enough to inspire others to climb out of the bucket. Be confident in your decision to become better than the people around you want you to.
Individual success is determined by the people around you.
People don’t want you to be better than them. Life is a competition. It is human nature to want to be the best. To make it easier to change, you must carefully choose the people around you. Choose friends who want to see you succeed. Choose friends who want to change for themselves. Choose friends who will help you escape the bucket, not pull you back.
I want you to think about what crab you are.
Are you a climber? Or are you a pity-seeker? Or the one pulling people back?
Be the climber, and bring others with you.
Escape the bucket.

I hope if you’re here you can relate.
My goal is to help others better themselves while doing the same.
