The power of influence

“To influence a person is to give one’s own soul.”

Epiphany comes when you realize that none of your thoughts are truly your own.


Every single thought that has come to your mind has been influenced by some outward source. If you were trapped in a vacuum, you would not be able to think the way you do.


Knowing this, ask yourself:


WHO HAS HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON ME?


When the answer comes, figure out why.


People have a grand influence for a variety of reasons. But in my life, the biggest influencers have been the people who push me to achieve my dreams. Pushing someone to achieve their dreams requires making them realize that they are better than most at something. The people that made a genuine effort to tell me I am good at what I love, are the people that had the biggest influence on me.


This comes down to one of the simple human desires:


THE FEELING OF IMPORTANCE.


When somebody goes out of their way to make you feel important, you remember them. You remember the people who love you, that’s why those are the same people you return to time after time. The strongest influence comes from love. Showing your love and care for a person by telling them they are important is invaluable. 


Everybody wants to leave a legacy. But most think they can do it alone. That is impossible. Your legacy is left with the people whom you influence. Without others, your legacy will not continue. Once you are gone, so is your influence. 


To feel important, you must make others feel important.


Want to leave an influence? Be conscious of how you treat others.


I have to remind myself daily that I would not be who I am without the integral people in my life. You are not who you are without the people around you.


Give thanks to all who have influenced you.


The more you give, the more influence you will have.


The more influence you have, the bigger legacy you leave.

  “You coming or what!?” My sunburnt eyelids slowly opened to the same bright sun as always. Half my body hung over the side of the bus stop bench.
