Attention
“Your life goes toward the things you give attention to.”
Is your attention being stolen? Or are you in control of where it goes?
Find what has your attention.
Success in any part of life is determined by how much time, attention, and effort you give that thing. The amount of time you have is limited. It is the most valuable resource. What is money if you don’t have time to spend it? Being that time is so valuable, you must make the most out of it. That requires giving maximum attention to a focused task during an allotted amount of time.
The more your attention wavers from the focal point, the more time it will take to do what you wish to.
My life changed when I started becoming disciplined with where my attention went. I felt like I had no time for anything. I felt like I had so much on my plate but when I finally examined it closer, I found that I was just putting my attention toward the wrong things. I would spend hours scrolling social media (not straight), playing video games, watching TV, or just doing mindless activities to avoid doing what I knew I needed to do.
I found out which tasks would help me get to my ultimate goal, set aside time for them, and poured all my attention into them.
After doing this I found that:
I could do more in less time
I felt more productive
I was happier
By just taking control over my attention, I was able to create a better life for myself. I quit letting distractions steal my most valuable asset: time. Rather I started taking full control over my time and attention and pouring it into the things that gave me long-term, lasting happiness.
Now when I am given free time, I always ask myself
WHAT IS WORTH MY ATTENTION?
Everyone has a list of things they need to do to simply survive. These are necessary things so they require attention. But successful people have a list of things that require their attention to become successful. They don’t just let distractions steal their attention when the survival needs are met. They realize that there is more than just simply surviving. Life needs to have meaning. Purpose. So they give their attention to things that have purpose.
It took years for me to realize that discipline will help me achieve my purpose. I spent too long letting my life live me. Wasting my attention on only the things that helped me survive, and giving away the rest of my attention to whatever was able to catch it. I disregarded my own happiness.
It took me becoming...
AWARE OF MY ACTIONS, AND DISCIPLINED WITH MY HABITS.
Once you master self-awareness and implement self discipline, life gets better.
Start giving your attention to the things that deserve it. The things that make you happy. The things that give you purpose.
Don’t let distractions steal your attention.
