Be specific
“The stronger your choice is, the stronger your voice is.”
Have you ever been given an assignment with extremely vague instructions?
Everyone has. Unclear instructions make the task so much harder to complete because you are doubtful of what you must do in order to fulfill the task. It makes it that much more likely that you will not complete it.
Herein lies the importance of CLARITY.
The clearer you are with what you want, the more likely you are to complete them.
I have struggled time after time to find clarity in what I want. I remember being 18 years old and wanting to create something of some sort. So I began brainstorming the idea for a clothing brand, because that was what I was into at the time. I brought the idea to my dad and together we brainstormed for a few days, developed a website and social media page, and started with some designs.
3 days later, it burned out. All of the creative juices that were flowing day 1 were gone. I couldn’t quite put a finger on why I didn’t have the drive to do it anymore, then I realized
I WASN’T CLEAR WITH MY GOALS.
My goal was to create something, but I didn’t know why I wanted to create it. I had no clear goals for doing what I was doing. No purpose.
This taught me a lot about being passionate about what you do. Being passionate about your goals makes it easier to put them into existence. Being passionate allows you to devise a solution for things that would get you stuck before.
Passionate people do WHATEVER IT TAKES.
To be successful, there are things that you’re not gonna wanna do.
But you do them anyway, because they are required to achieve what you want.
I was able to cut out a clear goal for what I wanted by answering 3 questions:
WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY?
WHY DOES THAT MAKE ME HAPPY?
HOW CAN I DO THAT THING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE?
By answering these 3 questions, I am able to pick out the most fulfilling things in my life. And my goal is to be the most fulfilled and happy that I can be.
After you have answered these questions you can start to develop goals to achieve the things that make you happy.
For example, if playing with your kids makes you happy, you have to find things that will allow you to do that as much as possible. This may require working hard to develop a side business so you can quit your day job, losing weight so you can keep up, or simply eating healthier so you can live longer and be there longer.
Establishing these smaller goals gives you daily tasks you can complete to fulfill your overall purpose.
This is where extreme clarity comes into play.
A clear purpose statement might look something like this:
I want to be as happy as I possibly can. I am happiest when I am hosting gatherings for friends in family because I enjoy providing for the people I love. For this to happen, I need to become a better host. Specifically, I need to become a better cook, and have a nice house to entertain guests. To become a better cook, I will watch cooking instructional videos everyday, and challenge myself to make one recipe per week. To have a nicer space to entertain guests, I will save $XXX per month for a house.
Obviously this is just an example, but it’s a great way to start figuring out how to achieve what you want.
The more specific you make each goal and each action, the more likely they are to get done.
The main key is figuring out what you really want. Once you figure this out, everything else comes naturally.
Be specific with what you want.
Do it consistently.
Live happily.
