Growing roots

“When the root is deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”

Invisible.

Roots are invisible.

But they are the most important part of the tree.

They nourish the tree, give it support and stability, and keep it grounded.

Those roots were growing before the tree was nearly visible. They were slowly forming behind the scenes while everyone was waiting for the tree to emerge from the ground. Everybody disregards the roots when they are waiting for the tree. They ignore the fact that the roots are the whole reason the tree is capable of being.

What have you been growing that is invisible to others?

Each person has roots. They have an ability that they were either born with, or have worked to develop for years. The more developed this ability is, the deeper their root system is. Some people have the deepest root systems imaginable, yet all they have is a small tree to show for it. Others have a tall tree, but it could easily be blown over by the wind because the roots are shallow. Everything is on the surface.

Life is a combination of growing your roots and blooming your tree.

To have a strong tree, you must take the time to develop your roots. You need to learn, experience, gain perspective before you can start branching out. But some may argue that by branching out, your roots are forced to grow deeper. They know that they must support the tree so they are challenged to grow.

But all too many people neglect the depth of their roots.

They have spent years growing these roots but don’t ever bloom their tree. They are afraid of the wind. They are afraid of the rain and the snow and all the elements that could hurt them. But the thing is, their roots are too deep for anything to knock them over. Even if a few branches are lost, the roots will work to gain nutrients and regenerate what is lost.

So ask yourself:

How deep are my roots?

If you have been living underground for a while now, your roots are deeper than you think.

There is a labyrinth of experience hiding beneath the surface that the world needs to see.

Imagine how tall a tree could be with a root system as deep as the one you possess.

People’s roots are so unknown until they show their tree. But some people are so scared of the wind that it never happens.

Developing strong roots gives you confidence. You know that if the wind picks up and you lose a couple branches, you will bounce right back. You know that if you start to stagger, your roots will hold you up.

Self-development is exaggerated by this metaphor.

With a strong mindset, strong morals, strong standards, strong values, nothing will knock you over. The more you work to develop yourself, the more impenetrable you become.

But also, if you have spent years in underground development, it is time to show your colors. Let your tree be a wonder for others to see. Show them the beauty that your strong roots have created.

Strong roots keep you upright in the hardest of times.

Grow your roots, show off your tree.
