Intuition
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
Logic vs intuition.
This struggle for power takes place inside your mind every single time you make a decision.
Is it worth pondering a while or should I trust my gut?
I experience this struggle on a daily basis. I am an analytical being by trait and tend to overthink every single decision, even the most basic ones. As time has passed, I have learned more and more that people who follow intuition typically have developed 2 character traits better than I have. Those two traits are:
Confidence
Self-trust
People who can act off intuition typically trust their conscience and are confident in what they do.
When really breaking down what develops confidence and self-trust, I realized that it all comes down to one thing:
Preparation
The more prepared you are, the more confident you are in any situation.
Preparation is often overlooked as being the key to confidence. Most people believe that confidence is something you either have or you don’t have. But confidence is developed. It is developed by becoming the most ready you can for any situation thrown at you.
It is obvious for those who have put in the time into presentations or speeches that they spend hours upon hours reviewing the material because they are confident in their delivery. A comedian doesn’t walk on to the stage and kill it at their first show (unless they have been preparing for improv). A pro athlete doesn’t shine their first time on the field, unless they have prepared to the extreme for the big moment. A surgeon shouldn’t be in the ER during an emergency surgery unless they have been exposed to the situation before, that is why they shadow for years before they perform surgery themselves.
Every ounce of confidence comes from your trust in yourself to perform in a given situation.
If you know you will perform, why think twice?
Logical reasoning is great, but most situations will call for you to think on the fly. You must be able to make a crucial decision without thinking. Instinctually making the correct choice.
Analysis of every single detail will put you in a state of procrastination. You may think that you will eventually make the right decision if you consider every scenario, but the truth is you will never be able to consider every scenario. Most scenarios carry an infinite amount of outcomes. If you attempt to weigh the pros and cons of each one, you will be stuck in analysis paralysis forever. Making no action toward what you wish to achieve.
Rather than thinking, start doing.
Put your head down and get to work.
Prepare for the situation you wish to be in.
The more I prepare myself for success, the more confident I become that I will be successful. I have gotten to the point where I am no longer intimidated by certain situations because I know I am ready. I quit being anxious about them because I know I cannot fail because I am prepared. And if I do fail, I am prepared for failure. I have seen myself conquer failure a multitude of times. I have proven to myself that I can overcome it, so why would I be scared?
Prove to yourself that you have nothing to fear.
Prepare yourself for any situation that could arise on your trek to success.
The more you prepare, the more confidence you will have in yourself.
Confidence and self-trust lead to a better intuition.
Trust your intuition, it’s usually right.
