Silence your shadow
“Show your scars so others know they can heal.”
Someone is following you.
No matter where you go.
They will follow you for the rest of your life.
Who is it?
YOUR SHADOW
Your shadow is the person in your head telling you you aren’t enough. Your shadow is the person you used to be reminding you constantly of its presence. Your shadow carries every bit of trauma, pain, discomfort that you ever experienced with it.
But your shadow is just a projection of yourself. It will be there as long as you are.
You will never escape your shadow. All you can do is use it as fuel.
My shadow is the immature, insecure, weak, 19-year old kid that didn’t know if my life would ever get better. He reminds me of my shortcomings, makes me aware of my flaws, and highlights my scars. I used to run from him. I was scared of him being seen by other people. I thought I had to hide him but the truth is I can’t hide him. He is a part of me whether I like it or not.
Because of him, I became who I am. He reminded me of my shortcomings so I had motivation to get better. He made me aware of my flaws so I could work on them. He highlighted my scars so I can teach from them.
Trying to erase your shadow is the worst thing you can do.
If you aren’t aware of what your shadow does to you, he will pull you down when you aren’t prepared for it. Your shadow will make you spiral into oblivion because it wants to be seen. It wants attention. So give it the attention it deserves. Acknowledge it. And show it who is in control. It will only control you if you let it.
Once you have given your shadow attention, it has nothing left to say.
Once you have shown it you are not afraid of it, it can no longer scare you. It can no longer bring you down. It can no longer hurt you.
My shadow is the reason I get up everyday. I wake up and tell myself that I am going to prove it wrong. I am going to suppress all the things it tells me by doing the exact opposite.
Tell me I am weak so I can prove to you I am strong.
Let your scars be the very thing that drives you to get better. Recognize what you have been through, learn from it and grow from it.
Silence your shadow by showing it that it can’t affect you.
