The fluctuation of time
“Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”
The perception and fluctuation of time might be the most interesting topic I have come across.
The more I think about time, the more I am confused.
I was a kid who used to pay attention to the clock more than anything. During class, I would know exactly how many minutes until I could move on to the next thing at all times. I was obsessed with the progression of time and constantly was doing math in my head to figure out what percentage I had finished of a certain activity.
When I think back to that obsession, I always think what was I anticipating?
What in my future was so exciting that I couldn’t wait for the current moment to end?
Most likely nothing.
My perception of the time became so much longer because I was not enjoying the current moment. During that period of my life, time seemed to drag on. But when I look back at it, I realize it went too fast. It accounted for such a small percentage of my life and will slowly account for less and less the older I get. Yet I wanted so badly to move forward in time.
I slowly grew out of this obsession. I started to realize that there is such a thing as the “good ol’ days”. There are days that exist that you wish you could relive. In this realization, I discovered my lack of appreciation for the present moment.
Time will fluctuate based on your perception of the experience.
Time is linear and constant, but with a different perception, time morphs and becomes dynamic and ever changing.
The more I try to control time, the more I lose sight of what is really important:
Enjoyment of life.
Enjoyment and happiness of the moments we live are all that really matters. What does it matter how much time you spend doing something if you are enjoying it?
Once you find what gives you real, lasting, euphoric feelings, time becomes irrelevant. It simply becomes something you use as a reference for when you do things.
Time will fluctuate based on your perception, but the less attention you pay it, the more enjoyable life is.
Quit worrying about how long you’re spending on what you do.
Worry about not completely appreciating each moment you are in.
You only have so much time to live so you must enjoy the moments you are alive.
There is no waste of time if you are enjoying wasting it.
